Bug Description

Ubuntu Breezy doesn't recognize the Dell 2005FPW, and defaults the resolution to 1280*1024 instead of the native resolution of 1680*1050. Manual editing of the xorg.conf is necessary to get the correct resolution.

This needs to be moved to xorg* component (screen is actually a command line program that lets you run multiple sessions in one terminal. Crazy isn't it?).

donely, could you ATTACH (using Add Attachment at the right) your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log please? Also could you include a link to your hardware id (Applications -> System Tools -> Ubuntu Device Database).

Calling for reporter to attach Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf in Breezy. If system has been used to testing Dapper, can you update us here if it works for you with no issues?

problem still exists in edgy eft, max res gets set to 1280x1024 rather than 1680x1050, leaving black bars on either side (or stretched). To fix, the user has to edit xorg.conf and add 1680x1050 to the list of acceptable "modes".

I have attached the default xorg.conf created at install, a modified xorg.conf that works, and the Xorg.0.log

though a custom modeline isn't needed for it to work, for the sake of completeness the stats for the monitor are located below:

VESA, 1680 x 1050(DVI)
Horizontal Frequency (kHz) 65.3
Vertical Frequency (Hz) 60.0
Pixel Clock (MHz) 146.25
Sync Polarity (Horizontal/Vertical) -/+
