Acording to the changelog it is explicitely disabled because njb support
is not working. Is it working for you when compiled manually?

I just downloaded the tarball of the latest version (0.10.11) from Banshee's website and compiled it - njb support is working fine.

Sebastian, you disabled it so I'm punting this one to you. YOu probably know the source better than I do ;)

Ok, I'll enable it again with the next upload then. This could take some time because I need a patch to work against our latest nautilus-cd-burner first...

Were there any manual changes required to get njb support working? Like setting permissions on the device, etc?

No, I just extracted the tarball, installed all the appropriate development packages, compiled it, and it worked. I transferred 8 gigs of music so I know it's working fine.
Playing files off the device directly does not work, however, but I'm not too concerned about that because neutrino always froze up on me when I tried to do that, so I don't think it's a Banshee issue. At least Banshee shows the files as unplayable instead of freezing.

I did have gnomad2 installed previously, but i don't believe i did anything special with it either. They just worked.

I should note that this is still broken even though it's compiled in now, as I reported a while ago in bug #63677
