beep doesn’t work in Dapper with no frequency specified

Bug Description

beep doesn’t seem to emit any sound in Dapper when called as `beep`; calling it with `beep -f 440` and with other frequencies works. The typical gnome-terminal beep is heard properly, and beep worked ‘by itself’ in Breezy on the same laptop (IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet).

Are you able to get sounds from other applications? If so, does beep produce a sound when invoked as `beep -f 440`?

Other applications work well, and `beep -f 440` actually beeps. That said, `beep` beeped in Breezy without any given frequency specified…

Thanks for updating the description. I can confirm this behaviour also on AMD64.

Could you please attach a log generated by strace -iv.txt beep command?

Oops, the right command is strace -ivo log.txt beep.

A log for `strace -ivo log-200.txt beep -f 200` (which actually beeps).

This should be fixed in Edgy.
