Bug Description

When I press the standby hotkey on a Gateway M275 it writes and entry to syslog, but doesn't actually standby the machine. The entry says "Doing nothing because the suspend button has been pressed". The particular button has no key code, but it's obviously showing up here so it does something.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

With 7.10 fn-f4 (standby) does work, on the Gateway M275 as does the standby selection of Power Off etc toolbar icon.

This did not work under the live distribution (running off of the 7.10 Desktop CD).

Wireless also works.

Bravo, Ubuntu, fabulous work (I've been struggling with these kind of issues in Linux for years.)
