Bug Description

Subject: i855-crt: Does not function on i915 (patch included)
Package: i855-crt
Version: 0.4-0ubuntu1
Severity: wishlist

*** Please type your report below this line ***

This package does not work correctly on i915 video controllers, such as that
found on modern Centrino laptops. I've
successfully patched the package to allow this (as well as fixing some minor
typographical errors, and a major
mistake with juxtaposition of ; and ||) - I was unable to invoke a display with
my patched tool on a Belinia 17" TFT,
until I tried "./i855crt on 1024x768@70", which worked perfectly and smoothly
compared to the juddering image in
i810switch.

I've also sent this patch to upstream.

While I'm at it, make it -rwsr-x--- root:video in /usr/bin, same as i810switch.
My dpkg-fu is weak, so buggered if i know which file in debian/ to hack to get
the desired effect.

Have you talked to upstream about this patch?

I posted it to the project's upstream SourceForge project patch page just under
a month ago
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1212045&group_id=107484&atid=647739),
but there seems to have been very little activity on the software (i.e. all
files in the CVS are 2 months old, which coencides with the 0.4 release)

i'm going to close this as wontfix, since the i810 driver in xorg will have
support for arbitrarily reprogramming the VESA mode list soon.
