k3b should *not* calculate md5 sum of images by default

Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

K3b starts calculating the md5 sum of any image immediately after selecting the image file in the appropriate dialog. This calculation uses alot of resources, especially with large dvd images. There appears to be no option to prevent this md5 calculation from starting automatically, nor any way of stopping it once it commences other than starting the burning process.

K3b should not do this calculation automatically at all unless it is needed or useful, such as when there's an md5sum available to check against, or when it's needed for verification purposes; in the vast majority of cases this is not so. Also, there should be an option to turn it off completely.

Described behaviour may or may not also be the background of bug 51939.

If I read this correctly things should be fixed in a later version.

I'm always thrown off by that single-to-double digit version number. It looks like what you were asking for was or should have been fixed in 0.7.5 but since ours is more current I'm guessing that either I haven't understood something or the fix didn't work.
Anyway, I've confirmed the bug since I see it too.

Have a look at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82843, especially comments #9 and #10. Sebastian Trueg the author of k3b doesn't seem convinced that this is a good idea.

this is a feature in k3b and does not cause an excess cpu load so is unlikely to be related to bug 51939

The negative comment by Sebastian Trueg in reply #10 of kde bug 82843 seems to be directed only towards the claim of k3b becoming unusable as made in reply #9 of said bug, rather than the rejecting the general idea of not having compulsary and unconditional md5 checking.

k3b should now only md5sum an ISO image once, although I guess it still starts doing it by default before burning.
