Bug Description

Hi,

libgpod got released upstream at version 0.4.0.

It is supposed to support the 5.5/6 G iPod Videos, 2G Nanos and the new Shuffle. The current 0.3.2 has issues with 2G Nanos (no Cover Artwork)

Thanks for looking into this!

When I say that the current version (0.3.2) has issues with 2G Nanos, I mean that this is what I know from experience as a 2G Nano owner.

Thanks for your bug. edgy is already version frozen and the new library version has a bunch of non-trivial changes, it's likely the update will wait next cycle

That is really a shame, as it involves limited functionality with the
latest series of iPods, but I understand.

It's a real bummer if Edgy's ligpod doesn't support newer ipod models correctly..
Any chances to get UVF Exception for libgpod 0.4.0 from www.debian-multimedia.org ?

Changes between versions seem big though ..

0.4.0 break the ABI by removal several functions and doesn't change the API, not sure we want to upload something broken like that

Alright, makes sense. Maybe it's better to defer this for Edgy +1 and possibly consider as edgy-backports material.

That upload fixes the problem:

 libgpod (0.4.0-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version (Ubuntu: #62235)
   * Build without python for now, python-eyed3 should be promoted before
     building with python
   * The new version breaks its ABI without changing the soname, only few
     packages use libgpod and they run fine with the new version, not making
     distribution specific changes for that then
   * debian/patches/01_fix_crasher_with_new_firmware.patch:
     - dropped, fixed with the new version
   * debian/patches/01_python_bind.patch:
     - dropped, fixed with the new version

Changed in libgpod:
status: Confirmed → Fix Released

no, why? Nobody replied to the question from the previous comment to start, and it's not likely that an ABI breakage like that is accepted as a stable update

Due to the noted ABI breakage, I'm very wary to do a backport. I have iPods myself, and I've noted that a straight-up backport of just libgpod indeed breaks my Nano 2G completely, corrupting the iTunesDB with erroneous entries and causing my nano to reboot trying to play.

libgpod 0.4.2 has been released, which
- changes the soname
- has better photo support
- amarok 1.4.5 (to be released in time for feisty) will depend upon.

I'd be happy if you could include that in feisty.
