Bug Description

It seems that the tulip driver for the onboard network card doesn't work correctly. (Transmission errors etc.) For more details see
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=454590.

I found a hint on http://individual.utoronto.ca/chant/asrock.html that one would need the patch
 tulip-fixes-for-uli5261.patch
to get the driver work correctly. It seems that this patch is not present in the 2.6.12-9-amd64-generic kernels.

Quick addition: the onboard network doesn't work with the -386 kernel either!
Bug 24987 is the same as this, also.

Dont think that the issue is fixed:

Since a few weeks, the NIC driver shows problems again, at least in Dapper64:

One needs to restart (deactivate NIC/activate NIC) in order to get the build-in NIC working.

See the attached lspci, lsusb and lsmod output here on my system. Somehow me thinks that the module is not loaded during boot up sequenze.

Just tried to use the ethernet with Ubuntu Dapper Flight 5 and it still doesn't work. You can enable it in the Networking under the Admin menu but that doesn't do anything--can't connect to computers and can't get to the Internet.

Recently, every few days I've had to run dhclient to activate the network after boot. Other than that, it has been working fine for me since flight 3.

My original bug from flight 2, don't know if this new problem is the same or related: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/28220

This should probably be a new bug, as the original one was fixed.
