Bug Description

isolinux is the bootloader used on the install and LiveCDs. On top of this, this the 'gfxboot' graphical patch is applied for extra visual pleasure.

The mode currently used is 640x480x4. This requires 153kB of memory and does not work on several laptops that feature a minimal VGA BIOS and/or only have 128kB of RAM mapped.

The 640x400x4 mode should be used instead which only requires 125kB of RAM; It will always work as it os mode that PCs boot up in.

For Ubuntu, vga16fb has already been upated in this fashion in an attempt to cure such bugs.

I presume you're aware that gfxboot uses VESA modes and not VGA modes directly?

This was raised in response to some Acers(?) that don't even make it to the gfxboot stage. I'm going to set this to Rejected for the moment and reopen it when I next come across the issue (I don't have any hardware myself that doesn't make it that far).
