Bug Description

The totem plugin should have an option to make it go full screen, much like other media player in plugin settings do.

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? The edgy version has an "open totem" context menu action, do you consider it fixes your issue? I think it's easy enough to make totem go to fullscreen to no cluter the context menu with an extra option for that. What do you think?

this is edgy (plugin never worked for me until now) and I don't see that menu option.

I'm attaching an image via cnn (and the ms media player interface). The only thing I can guess is that cnn tells it not to show it?

oh and to answer your Q. if it did have an "open in totem" option, that might be good enough, unsure as one has to think of what functionality one wants to do from the plugin and I think 2 biggies are "save" and "go fullscreen" so making them an extra step, seems a waste.

I think fullscreen option would be a very good feature to have. For example a little icon appearing in top corner when you place your mouse over the video window. Average user expects something like this to happen, and if it doesn't happen, he/she thinks something's broken.

ok so the "generic" totem plugin has an "open in movie player" option, but its not there via the windows media player interface, so that's a discrepancy b/w the different plugins.

On the flip side, I still think that certain items should be readily available from the plugin directly (i.e. full screen, save if that's possible, but totem doesn't support that in normal mode)

Another "me too" for the full-screen option. I consider it very useful. Using icon for resizing to full-screen sounds good. Also double-click in the movie window seems to be pretty common.

The request has been rejected upstream with that comment:

"Most of the time, fullscreening the plugin will suck. The movies are made to be
embedded, not run fullscreen. So no fullscreen for the plugin."

doing the same with the distribution task since we don't want to divert from upstream

The coherence issue is fixed upstream:

"2006-09-04 Bastien Nocera <email address hidden>

        * browser-plugin/totemPlugin.cpp: Use the aliased mime-type if there
is one, rather than the "embed" mime-type, fixes most Windows Media,
and Real embedded movies not having an "Open with..." menu item

I would really like to have this feature. Does it make any senses to discuse it more here or should I go to upstream?

makes sense to discuss upstream, we don't want to go against upstream decisions for something like that. If the feature really makes sense it should go upstream where everybody can profit of it

The trouble is that the feature really makes sense but it's to low on their priority list...

Maybe Bastien Nocera is on a 56k modem but I'm on 100Mbit and I can pretty much stream 480p content and I want that to be played fullscreen.
