Bug Description
Reference is made to bug #64666 at https:/
I suggest the background color be changed back to black, because some users will (not may) meet problems in their booting process in showing splash image. As far as I know, full screen splash does not work on every box that may use Ubuntu (at least for now) for software or hardware reasons.
If for any reason, the splash image cannot be stretched to cover the full screen, the user will see a black screen with a brown (or whatever other color) box in the middle (or corner) as their boot splash (esp. on LCD), which will be very ugly and cause panic in average users. Black background color for splash will eliminate this problem.

I agree. A black background is IMHO more aesthetic, and eliminates the shrinking or bad resolution issues (like bug #60621 and its duplicates).
