Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  vlc: Depends: dbus-1 (>= 0.23.4) but it is not installable
       Depends: libhal0 (>= 0.4.0) but it is not installable
       Depends: libmodplug0 (>= 1:0.7-1) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

my sources.list:
============
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy main restricted

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-updates main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-updates main restricted

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ breezy universe main restricted multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy universe

deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security main restricted

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security universe
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security universe

===> End sources.list <==

I upgraded from hoary to breezy by replacing all occurences of hoary with breezy in sources.list. Then did an "sudo apt-get update" followed by "apt-get dist-upgrade"

The problem is, that the latest ppc package FTBFS on ppc:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~lamont/buildLogs/v/vlc/0.8.2-1ubuntu3/vlc_0.8.2-1ubuntu3_20050827-0148-powerpc-failed.gz

There seems to be some altivec magic failing with gcc-4.0.

Unfortunately its not looking good, this isn't even fixed in debian yet, we could work around powerpc with --disable-altivec, theres still a host of ia64, amd64 bugs tho, i'll look at this soon and try to at least get a working version.
