Bug Description

while using ubuntu dappar drake lts i found that the ps/2 mouse while connected through a kvm switch goes crazy, this occured on 2 different mice i tried (logitech mx700 and aopen corded poptical mouse)

the system this occurs on is a 7zx gigabyte system with a via chipset, with ubuntu dpaper drake installed.

the same hardware configuration with the kvm switch while breezy was installed worked fine,

the same kvm switch using dapper on a gigabyte nforce2 chipset is fine.

the xorg.conf entrys concerning the mice are the same on both machines abovementioned,

As I type this, the machine I am using is utilizing the mx700 on a KVM. I have this on 2 machines with fresh installs and not updates. I don't have any issues currently with this setup. Chipset is a via kt333, abit at7 on one system and this is a via kt266a, abit rt7. Both systems run fine. Did you do a distribution upgrade on your system, and not a fresh install? Hopefully somebody will come along that has an issue similar, but as of right now on my system, utilizing similar chipsets but with me a fresh install, I cannot confirm. I will continue researching the issue. Thank you.

What is the KVM model you are using by the way? As it seems this is similar if not the same issue as https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/50414

the chipset on my board is a via 133 just to clear that up,

there is no problem on the other system running dapper also (nVidia chipset). which leads me to think it has something to do with the chipset,

my kvm switch is a generic type with no real markings on it other than scan button on the front,

also the keyboard running through the kvm switch seems to have issues also and will randomly sticky key now and then, resulting in continuous stings of charactors. i have also tried the loading of the ps/2 imp module but to no avail.

if there are any other tests i vcan do to help you i are happy to assist.

meantime i have ordered another kvm and will try that, however i still see it as a bug.

cheers,

I have the same problem with a Belkin KVM. This is not Ubuntu-specific - I had the same problem with Fedora Core 3 & 4. It is kinda fixed in Fedora Core 5. The mouse still freaks out after switching ports, but returns to normal after a couple seconds.

This sounds like it is the same Bug as #46074, so I'm going to mark it as a duplicate in hopes of focusing more attention on the problem.

this is definately an upstream bug, and is well documented all over the net,

some patches like theis are available,
http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/11/9/47

i have seen posts of this occuring on and off over time from suse and gentoo ect ect.

and yet another thread
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=449329

in fact if you google on these key words - psmouse throwing lost, you will come up with hundreds of instanses of this bug,

iam guessing its a very difficult problem to solve given the fact that its a very prolific problem affecting a lot of people for some time and hasnt been solved.
