Bug Description

I'm running a clamshell ibook G3 300mhz with ubuntu 5.10 installed and stable.

When trying to test the Dapper Drake Live cd ( I've only tried flight 3 and 4 ) yaboot send me into an open firmware prompt. When I type the command mac-boot ( as open firmware prompte me to do ) the machine responds with a DEFAULT CATCH!.

If I direct open firmware to yaboot file via "boot cd:,\install\yaboot" It replies with CLAIM rejected and I'm back at the prompt.

I've burned 10 different copies of the iso on different media, all at 2x allowing for the pickiness of the apple cd-rom.

The Dapper flight 3 and 4 live cd does not work with my clamshell ibook G3 300mhz. Which is a standard machine except for a memory upgrade of 384mb or ram instead of 128mb.

I've also had the "can't allocate initial device tree chunk message"
that you reported in your bug. I'm already running Breezy slick as a
whistle on the ibook, so I was surprised the live cd wouldn't work. The
breezy live cd worked fine with Mac OS 9 installed, and then later, it
also worked fine with Breezy installed, so I'm confused.

Thanks for the heads up.

On an iBook G3 Clamshell/Graphite, the Dapper PPC beta live CD gives me the splash screen, but then blanks the screen entirely a few moments into the startup. The screen never comes back after that, so I can't tell what's wrong. The video=ofonly trick doesn't fix it, and neither do any of the other boot-up options on the disk.

I'm now trying to install from the text installer CD of Dapper beta, and it doesn't look good. Everything was fine through the installation, until I rebooted into the new system. Then it came up with a blank screen. I even made sure to uncheck the "1024x768" option in the monitor settings, as this resolution isn't supported by the Clamshell iBook. We're in darkness nonetheless.

When I got the drumbeat, I entered my username and password, and heard the Ubuntu chimes in reply, so the problem seeems to be limited to the video output. But that's pretty important.

Maybe this is related to the horizontal refresh problem documented in another iBook bug thread, or maybe not. In either case, it renders Dapper useless for clamshell iBook owners.

Breezy installed fine on this same machine.

in response to alan dove, i would suggest him looking at the monitor depth settings.

I see the identical problem on my clamshell ibook G3 1st revision (one usb, no firewire) .
