Install to flash media

It should be possible to install to flash media, whether it is attached via USB, IDE, PCMCIA, or other mechanism. This would require ensuring that the filesystem is touched as infrequently as possible.

There are two main benefits to installations of this type:

1) Flash requires less power than hard drives. By keeping the main OS on flash, hard drives can be spun down.

2) Performance. Non-sequential reads from flash are far superior to those of hard drives.
