[edgy]firefox crashes with flash plugin

Asked by Ben Bromley

I'm using the Ubuntu installed Firefox, Bon Echo Beta 2, in Knot 3 Edgy, and when I install the flashplugin-nonfree, it crashes firefox every time I go to a website with flash content. I tried installing another flashplugin, one of the free ones, and that one did work, but wasn't nearly as good as the way I know the non-free flash plugin can be.

This happens with me too, both in Firefox as well as in Epiphany..

Unluckily there is nothing we can do about this problem because Flash plugin is not free software and we have no chance to fix anything. You can try to install the newer version from Adobe website or to report them directly this behaviour. Good luck.

I just don't understand why it worked perfectly in Dapper and now refuses to work.

Probably this is because of Firefox 2.0beta.

Hi,
Flash does work for me. I used flashplayer-mozilla from multiverse instead of flashplugin-nonfree. It will install flashplayer and plugin version 7.0.25.0 instead of version 7.0.68

Hope we will get version 9 soon !

Bye!

As you can see from bug #60256, plugins older than 7.0.68 suffer from a critical vulnerability. You are encouraged to upgrade it.

This was happening to me too. After setting depth 24 in xorg.conf no more crashes with flash.

Yes! The same for me. Passed from 16 di 24 bit X and flash is now working fine. Now we can have a working and "secure" flash :-)

Finally something that works! Setting the depth from 16 to 24 in the xorg.conf file allows the flashplugin nonfree to work. Thanks!

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

CONTROL+ALT+BORRAR (backspace)

startx

Hi, everybody
(some people have old monitors then some times is not possible switch to 24 the depth like me for example i have a Samsung SyngMaster 550v) if you can't switch to 24 your depth, don't worry you can fix it too, please try to do the following steps.

* open the xorg config file
1.- open a line command terminal and type this.

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

2.- then only add the following lines to create a new section to disable the xorg Composite extension enabled by default.

#------------------
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "0"
EndSection
#-------------------

3.- now we need restart the xorg xserver
ctrl+ALT+BACKSPACE

the end ^^

i found this information in this site there you can read more about this error in a better english ^^ sorry =P
