Why no date/file size info given when replacing files?

When you copy a file from one folder to another (and it already exists) you are prompted to confirm if you want the file replaced. Gnome doesn't give any information about dates or file sizes. Which is the newer or bigger file? This is fundamental to avoid overwriting the wrong file and would be incredibly useful.
Advanced users may not need this info since they should know about which files are what, but beginners backing up their files may be confused/frustrated by this.
