Automatic Updates for Firefox inacessible

Asked by Shawn Brockmeier

In Firefox version 1.5.0.1 which came with Ubuntu, the option to automatically check for updates to Firefox is greyed-out. Should this be this way? I'm sorry if I'm lacking in necessary information, I am a glorified newbie.

Thank you for the super-fast response. As long as I didn't break it, I'm a happy camper.

One last question, though; why can't this be turned on? Are there updates that could potentially cause problems with Ubuntu? I probably just answered my own question, but I'd just like to make sure.

here in ubuntu, we have slightly custom builds of firefox, with our own special patches, so unfortunanty using the normal firefox updater would install the "offical" build without all of our patches.

Updates are handled via the Ubuntu Update Manager (keeps it all nice and centralised)
