Ok the patch has been accepted upstream just waiting on it to being pushed to master. If this is to be fixed for Firefox it needs to be applied to the GDK+ 2 library also as Firefox still uses GTK+ 2 this might mean the patch needs to be applied to the Ubuntu gtk2 build
