Cool, thank you! having read more of the code I see that the db scheduler is reading the entire hosts lists on every schedule request, which seems bonkers, but thats *clearly* a different discussion. However, it does simplify the choices we have, since we don't need to consider skewed views of the data, we just need to ensure that the resources are claimed immediately.
