Comment 2 for bug 914974

After some more experimenting it seems that after attempting to mount an already existing virtual disk the volumes get totally messed up. Trying to delete the volume fails and a list shows "error_deleting" as the state of the volume. I had to reboot the machine and rerun stack.sh to get back to working.
