This is one way to see it. Or one can see it as a single desktop environment erecting barriers of entry that don't exist in any of the others. We aim to keep Onboard usable across desktops and I do even test on GNOME shell and classic to fix things there as they crop up. Where I've drawn the line in the past, was when GNOME made it impossible for anything but extensions to type into password dialogs.

As I see it, It's not necessarily on us to promote Onboard for GS. The GNOME people seemed content with what they had in the past, and we went out of our way to allow happy coexistence with their keyboard. If there's ever a change of mind and renewed interest in alternative keyboards, we'll be ready to support them.

As I mentioned to Francesco, I'd even offer to maintain it. We'd just need an extension that works initially. Original author and license (preferably GPLv3) stay honoured of course.
