Bug Description

(gst 0.10 RH)

The seek bar doesn't work very well/smoothly.
Quite often (say at least once in 20 manipulations), when I move the seek bar
with the mouse, it will exbihit some kind of glitch, during a split a second.
Hard to describe... for example, say the button is in the middle, and I move it
to the right. Well, sometimes, the button will decide to "jump" to the far left,
or far right, or anywhere, then eventually come back where I meant to move it to.
Sometimes, it doesn't even want to go where I want it to, and the cursor/button
(don't know how to call it...) ends up an inch backwards.
Also, when it does this, often, it will stay mute for like 2 seconds, before
resuming the playback.

I first noticed this problem when playing back a podcast episode, and since they
are mp3 files, I thought maybe it's a bug the "ugly" plug-in. So I tried with
OGG songs, and the problem is there as well. Also, I tried both MP3 and OGG with
Totem-gst0.10, and couldn't reproduce the problem neither with OGG or MP3. So it
really seems to be a RH specific problem...

On a similar note (using 0.9.3.1): when you click somewhere on the seek bar with the intent of jumping to that point in the song, the seek bar just wiggles and doesn't go to that point.

Seeking doesn't work at all for me. Both in rhythmbox and quodlibet, so it seems to have roots in gstreamer0.10. If I move the seek bar to any given position, the song stops at that given point. I have to pause/unpause for it to continue.

Do you still have the issue on dapper?

Yes, it is still extremely buggy, possibly even worse than when I first reported the bug actually...

Sebastian, do you have some idea on that?

I only have this problem with VBR mp3s and weird formats (like wavpack or musepack). I guess it's mostly caused by either non-optimal seeking in the plugins or limited seeking ability in the file format (as in the mp3 case)

should be fixed with the edgy package and maybe with the dapper one too according to when it has been marked upstream, closing it as fixed. Feel free to reopen if you still have the issue on edgy

Just tried in Edgy. It works a bit better, it's less blattant, but the bug is definitely still there.
I haven't re-opened it though.... since upstream status is apparently "rejected", hence I guess they won't do anything about the problem.

you better bug upstream directly about such issues because have that relayed by people who don't have the issue don't make thing easier to be worked
