Synaptic requires an extra proxy setting

Bug Description

Hello,

while I was locked in a network that required setting a proxy to access
outside, I found out that in Dapper I need to set up the proxy in three
places:

 1) The gnome settings
 2) Firefox connection settings
 3) Synaptic package manager

It would be nice if Synaptic could take the proxy settings from gnome:
having to set proxies in 3 places was annoying and hard to explain in a
course.

Ciao,

Enrico

I agree with this bug. It is severely irritating (I move into and out of a lab with proxy on a daily basis) to have to set proxy settings in three places. Why hasn't this bug been confirmed?

This problem is half-solved now. We make sure that proxy settings are exported in the environment for applications run via gksu. This makes synaptic work automatically with the gnome settings. Only when run "by-hand" (without gksu) it will require manual proxy-settings.

I think that the interface of synaptic must have an option to inform the field of authentication, user and password. Or that synaptic works only with gnome settings. It's not working only gnome settings.
