Wiki is completely in HTTPS, defeating proxy caches

Bug Description

Hello,

when I was in Ethiopia with limited bandwidth, I noticed that the entire
Ubuntu wiki runs on HTTPS, and so its pages cannot be cached by the
local proxy.

It would be nice if HTTPS were used only for logging in, leaving the
rest in unencrypted HTTP so that it can be cached.

Ciao,

Enrico

I agree with the bug, and we can talk to the admins about it. But sadly I don't think it will speed the wiki up - it's slow because of its sheer size... Maybe an upgrade of the software will help that though.

The admins have chosen to use SSL because of the wiki's inter-relation with Launchpad. While the caching point is valid and good it is felt that using SSL provides security benefits that are more important.
