Written for surl by Savvas Radevic on 2010-01-21

I was browsing through Launchpad today when I noticed on the homepage (http://launchpad.net) my - or better said my team's - project on the very homepage of Launchpad! Such an honour. Big thanks to whoever is making this possible. :)

A new plugin system using library calls has been implemented (documentation at http://bit.ly/68u3ub). surl's scripting supports new and updated functions: setvar, printvar, printinf and exec (http://bit.ly/8QPvol). Last but not least, a new service is now supported, chilp.it!

libsurl - clone of surl!

Written for surl by Savvas Radevic on 2009-12-03

Scott is creating libsurl, a clone of surl in order to make it usable for c/c++ applications: https://launchpad.net/libsurl
Quoting the project description: "libsurl allows other applications to dynamically generate shortened urls. This could potentially be of greatest use in browser plugins and chat clients."

0.6.1!

Propeng has made surl even better! surl now also supports zi.ma, ri.ms, a.nf, twurl.nl, kurl.it and piurl.com. Secondly, scripting is now possible using surlscript (see http://tinyurl.com/ykv4cj5 for examples and commands/functions). Lastly, two arguments added: --version (to output version info) and --url (to pass the URL to be shortened).

0.5.4

In previous versions, surl did not read arguments when installed, and instead used the default options with tinyurl.com. This has been fixed with this release. Hopefully there won't be any more bugs of this kind!
