Comment 2 for bug 216455

Hi,

We'd normally class this problem as a support request rather than a bug. It's best to file support requests on the Answers section of Launchpad (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu).

Since it's been reported here though, here's a step-by-step version of Dougie's comment, above:

 1. Press Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal. A Terminal window will appear.
 2. Type the command that was given in the Synaptic error message, exactly as it is written, into the Terminal. This will probably be the command that Dougie mentioned. Then, press Enter.
 3. You will be asked for your administrative password. Type the password (no letters will show up when you type it, but that's normal) and press Enter.
 4. Follow the instructions on screen, if there are any. Otherwise, close the Terminal and try Synaptic again.
