Thanks for your reply. Though I'm really dumbstruck how behaviour that's confusing and wrong could be intentionally designed into a system under the guise of user-friendliness. Even more so because I just noticed that if instead of a USB pendisk you plug-in a larger USB drive, the behaviour is correct! How is this inconsistency supposed to be user-friendly?
Moreover, in the long term you're in for a world of hurt if you start conceding on wrong design choices due to a poor assessment of
usability. It makes systems more complex, error-prone, and yes -- far less user-friendly!
I still maintain this is a bug. And apparently one that is far more serious than I first imagined. From which package does it come from?
