I think I have experienced this as well on an Asus A7N8X Motherboard with mostly nvidia chipset, but with a RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. SiI 3112 [SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller (rev 01).
Can you run the following command in the terminal and post the output (lspci file on your desktop):
$ sudo lspci -vvnn > ~/Desktop/lspci && lspci >> ~/Desktop/lspci
