Bug Description

It would be fine to have Sunbird in Ubuntu repos. It is actually in Debian experimental (though they have an old-unstable version).

The latest version ATM is 0.3.1, and 0.5 should be out soon (probably for Feisty+1)

Pochu

Hi,

You should ask mlind to upload its package on REVU (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/REVU), and hopefully it will be uploaded before universe freeze.

Greetings.

last time I looked, sunbird was not yet released from a stable mozilla branch. This makes it (too) hard to maintain if it comes to security and stability updates. So probably not for feisty.

Alexander its in experimental but we dont merge/sync from experimental but i guess now that we have you as maintainer that could be something we decide on doing. link is :
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=sunbird&searchon=names&subword=1&version=all&release=all

My wuestion is why do we need another mozilla mail client what does it have thunderbird doesnt have?

Package sunbird

    * experimental (mail): Sunbird standalone mail client
      0.2.99+0.3alpha1-3: alpha hppa i386 ia64 mips mipsel powerpc sparc
if you read the link i gave you would see this part. Yes sunbird from mozilla-site states its a calender but since we take from debian the package sunbird is a standalone mail client.

I think that just means the Debian maintainer tagged it wrong. I have 0.6a1 installed, and it's definitely a calendar.

Lars Noodén (larsnooden) wrote : Mozilla Sunbird needed on Feisty

Mozilla Sunbird would be great to have as part of Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu.
But Sunbird is still missing from Feisty:

 $ apt-cache search sunbird
 opensync-plugin-sunbird - Opensync Mozilla Calendar(Sunbird) plugin
 python2.4-schoolbell - web-based calendaring server
 schoolbell - web-based calendaring server

Release info:
 $ uname -a; cat /etc/lsb-release
 Linux mini 2.6.20-14-powerpc #3 Mon Apr 2 17:15:34 UTC 2007 ppc GNU/Linux
 DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
 DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.04
 DISTRIB_CODENAME=feisty
 DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.04"

I am working on sunbird in the next few days to get it built and uploaded for gutsy.
As for feisty after i get it done for gutsy the mozilla team will have it in our preview archive or a place you can get the feisty build.

We are only packaging this for gutsy, IF we end up packaging it for feisty it will be in the mozilla-team repo.

the package is in debian, and can be downloaded from here: http://packages.debian.org/experimental/mail/sunbird.

Are we going to take the debian package, or are you working on your own package?

I notice asac maintains the package in debian. I just to build that one in ubuntu, but it FTBFS. find the buildlog attached.
