Bug Description

(Kubuntu Feisty Fawn alpha 5, live cd)

When I shut down the live cd, at the end the splash is hidden and those messages are displayed:

Unmounting temporary filesystems...
umount: /cow: not found
Deactivating swap...
Unmounting local filesystems...
umount2: device or resource busy
umount: /cdrom busy - remounted read-only
umount2: device or resource busy
umount: /rofs busy - remounted read-only
mount: function not implemented

Then a message "Please remove the disk....." appears, but when I press enter, nothing happens. I also can't open the cd tray by pushing the eject button on it (as described in bug 90706 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kshutdown/+bug/90706).

I have also encountered this with Xubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd5 i386 LiveCD.

I've tested Feisty Herd 5 Desktop CD on two systems, and on both the CD fails to eject, though the splash remains on the screen. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then Ctrl+Alt+F8 yields much the same messages as above (from memory):

----

* Unmounting temporary filesystems ....
umount: /cow: not found
                 [Fail]
* Deactivating swap .... [OK]
* Unmounting local filesystems ...
umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: /cdrom busy - remounting read-only
umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: /rofs busy - remounting read-only
                 [OK]
mount: Function not implemented
* Casper is resyncing snapshots and caching reboot files:
Please remove disk and close tray ..

----

Can I suggest retitling this bug to "live CD fails to eject on shutdown (with strange messages)"?

Looks like Bug #84592 (<https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/84592>) is a duplicate of this bug, and that it is fixed..

It's not fixed, or it's not the same bug. I tried Feisty Beta and got the same error.

Interesting. I guess the clue was the splash screen gave way to the error messages for you, where as for others (and me) the splash stayed on screen - even though the same messages could be found by manually changing VTs.

This same thing happened to me, and now I cannot eject the CD at all (even in windows). I've tried multiple methods of ejecting and the only explanation is that it may be in use.
