display goes black after login screen

Asked by Jerry s

I moved my hard drive from computer A to computer B.
All works great in Computer A. on Computer B I boot from the live CD and then copy the xorg.conf from RAM to Computer B's /etc/X11/xorg.conf
I reboot to computer B' hard drive and I get to the Ubuntu red and orange login screen and login with user name and password. I hear the welcome sound and then the screen goes black.
I then hit ctrl alt F1 and do sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but no help. It already has the correct xorg.cong info.
Is there something else that is shutting off the X display ?
This moving of the hard drive to other computers works fine. So far it is this one computer that is stubborn. I tried vesa driver and also low screen resolutions but still no help.

Could you please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old files?

I sent those 2 files directly to Luca via email.
Is there a way to attach them here to the case ?
