@Peter, try putting the following script in ~/.kde/Autostart and of course make it executable.

#!/bin/bash

/usr/bin/akonadictl start
------

It's not a solution, but it works for me.
It maybe fail, if kontact is also started at the beginning of your kde session automatically.
