I'm using dapper, updated daily. The problem may not be precisely an Ekiga problem. It looks like what's happened is that the alsa configuration on dapper no longer has all of the device aliases it used to have. So for instance if you select the 2nd sound card (or even the first! anything other than "Default") Ekiga will try to open plughw:2. This "device" used to exists in older versions of alsa (or non-Ubuntu versions?) but doesn't exist after alsa was updated a while back.

I logged it as an Ekiga bug because it seemed to me that the Alsa changes were probably intentional and applications needed to be updated to "the new way" in order to work properly.
