Same hp2800 box... i tried an install using debian-live-11.5.0-amd64-lxqt+nonfree.iso and result was identical to lubuntu.

debian calamares is 3.2.36 (bullseye)

issue is not lubuntu specific; nor newer calamares -- though where session.log is (newer lubuntu/calamares) I'd like to know !!
