Getting the same error message as George using the following optical drive in an ACER 4002WLMI laptop:
QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082 LX51 (/dev/scd0, ) [CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL] [DVD-ROM, DVD-R Sequential, DVD-RW Restricted Overwrite, DVD-RW Sequential, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R Dual Layer, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW] [SAO, TAO, RAW, SAO/R96R, RAW/R16, RAW/R96R, Restricted Overwrite]
Error message (details see attached file: K3b, GnomeBaker, Brasero, Nero, xcdroast):
Errno: 5 (Input/output error), write_g1 scsi sendcmd: no error
I can't burn anything independent of media used and speed. Same burner works fine under openSUSE 10.2 where it is handled as IDE device (/dev/hdc). Related to this: There are no burning problems with Feisty on a 5 year old laptop where the burner (Toshiba ... - no detailed information right now) is handled as IDE device (/dev/hdc) as well.
