Please follow the instructions in the section "USB printer" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems.

Also run the commands (with printer connected and turned on):

modprobe usblp
usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0
usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp1
