2cm too down, so there is 2cm empty space top of the page.
Could this be same problem?

This Feisty installation is "clean" installation, but this problem was also with upgrade installation from Edgy, so there shouldn't be much my own configurations.

I tried also Epson own driver, but i couldn't get it work so i removed it.

This tp0: Epson_StylusDX48x0 TurboPrint is Turboprint driver as you can see and printer works perfectly with it.

It looks like Ubuntu is using a snapshot of Gutenprint where the borderless functionality is broken (so was the non-borderless, for that matter). Ubuntu needs to update to a newer CVS snapshot or back off to 5.0.

I'm hoping to release 5.1.0 soon, which will also have improved CUPS 1.2 functionality (autogeneration of PPD files, support for CUPS 1.2 custom parameter values). Use the native CUPS interface, not the Foomatic interface (in other words, get rid of foomatic-db-gutenprint).

I removed foomatic-db-gutenprint + all gutenprint stuff and compiled CVS Gutenprint.

It was positive surprise that i managed to get it work after dependency jungle, but now there is still 0.7-0.5 centimeter empty space :(

But we are going in good direction.

Do you have any more ideas how to fix this or should i try to install cvs 1.3 cups :)

I attached new scanned print output.

Krister, when you use Gutenprint you need to select the Borderless option to print to the edge.

The very latest CVS -- in the last 30 minutes -- has an additional change that by default does not crop output when borderless isn't selected (it will shrink the output slightly). But if you really want edge to edge printing you need to select Borderless.

I tested to change borderless option yes and no, but it didn't do any changes to print layout.

Maybe cvs version which i installed wasn't in best shape, need try again another day when i have time.

I tested newest cvs and problem is still there (shrinking output is now there but it doesn't help).

Check out newest scanned print output, open picture in Gimp and you can definitely see the problem.
I tested bordless on/off, but it doesn't change output.

Is this only happening with CX4800/DX4800 and similar printers?

Robert Krawitz (rlk-alum) wrote :

A couple of questions:

1) Does this happen with Gutenprint 5.0.0, or only with the latest CVS (pre 5.1.0)?

2) Does this happen in borderless mode, normal (non-borderless) mode, or both?

I'd like to try to fix this before 5.1.0 release, but I really need answers to these questions...

Yes! You did it thanks a lot!
Newest cvs installation fixed this:

I don't know is this needed first:
sudo cvs -d:pserver:<email address hidden>:/cvsroot/gimp-print login

But this downloads newest cvs whitch is working perfectly:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:<email address hidden>:/cvsroot/gimp-print co -P print

Now Ubuntu team need upgrade their cvs driver.

Fixed OK :)

Sam (shunter-gmail) wrote : Re: printing incorrect Epson Stylus r200

I'm having the same problem described above. Basically the printer scrolls about 1.5 inches of paper out before it starts printing, and then runs out of room at the bottom of the page and doesn't finish. I've tried it in normal, and borderless mode. (Printer works fine in windows).

Any idea when the fix mentioned above will be included in the Feisty updates?

I am running the "5.0.0+cvs20070127-0ubuntu1" version of the cupsys-driver-gutenprint, which appears to be the latest version of that package.

thanks,

Sam

Sam (shunter-gmail) wrote : Epson r200 problems, continued

I think this problem may still exist for the r200. I downloaded the latest version in CVS:
as shown on the Gutenprint page
(http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/p_Download.php3)

then used the autogen.sh script to generate make files etc, and installed them. Attached is the output from printingbuginfo.

Perhaps I did something wrong installing?

The attachment indicates that you have an old version. Could you take a look at the modification time of /usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertogutenprint.5.1 and /usr/lib/cups/driver/gutenprint.5.1?

Also make sure that you're using the 5.1.0 PPD file, not the 5.0 one.

I also installed the above packages.

The test print still has problems, it is 14mm higher than it used to be, but the first horizontal line still starts 14mm lower than the top of the page, and all horizontal lines are cut off on the bottom of the page.

However,

I tried a test print from Evince of a PDF. It looks perfect
I tried a test print from OO with .1" margins and text in all 4 corners of the page. It also looks perfect.
I tried a test print of an 8.5" x 11" page from The Gimp with borderless mode turned on. It cut a tiny bit off of each side, but I don't think this printer can do borderless prints on a full sheet of paper, so I expected that.

So, in my book, it's fixed! (except the demo page)

thanks,

Sam

What resolution are you printing the test page at? The R200 should be able to do borderless.

Sam (shunter-gmail) wrote :

I had it set to the default "Automatic".

I just changed it to 360dpi and then 720dpi, in both cases, the test page prints the same, with the bottom lines missing.

I also attached my printing bug info.

libgutenprint-doc_5.0.0.99.1-0ubuntu1_all.deb
libgutenprintui2-1_5.0.0.99.1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

This was also required and i installed it from Synaptic (i'm not sure did i uninstall it earlier):
libijs-0.35

Now test page looks perfect (Epson Stylus DX4850)!

I will now uninstall these rc packages and wait for updates coming from Synaptic.

Thank you very much.
