While not a test case mvo mentions the following in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/672848/comments/2:

"Here is the error:

dpkg: ../../src/filesdb.c:528: findnamenode: Assertion `(*pointerp)->name[0] == '/'' failed.
dpkg: error processing libssl0.9.8 (--configure):
 package libssl0.9.8 is already installed and configured"

and:

"So first the unpack failed, then the apt got confused over the subsequent needed configures"
