This is also effecting me but I _DID_NOT_ run out of space, in fact I've about 500GB free. System is upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 Kubuntu.

Same characteristics, .Private with 0 size files, so far some firefox files that didn't casue a problem and a coupld of cache files but I've notied a few times Akonadi (Kubuntu 12.04) through up strange errors which may be related.

A recurring one is ~/.mozilla/firefox/m1cop2xb.default/urlclassifier3.sqlite-journal
