The current version in Hardy is emesene (1.0-dist-1) and does *not* include the fix. The result is that in the near future the emesene package will be completely unusable.
The current version in Intrepid is emesene (1.0-dist-4) and *does* include the fix, resulting in a working package. The package can be compiled on Hardy without any problems, I suggest that the package is updated either through ubuntu-updates or through backports.
