I have the same issue after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.041 x64 bit.

Is it concerning that /etc/X11/core is so large?
If so, is it indicative of a problem with X11?
Is it a bug in bzr?

I am going to try the workaround posted by kjcole (adding to .bzrignore).
