This is now fixed for real in the new upstream version 0.6.2, using the patch that I was advocating by Paul Wellner Bou.

The new version simply does not alter EXIF timestamps, which is arguably the correct behavior.

What are the chances of seeing 0.6.2 in current Ubuntu as an SRU?
