Although things have gotten better:

When a modal dialog is opened, all windows already open keep functioning as they should.

Then again, newly opened windows (either by launching firefox.exe again, or choosing file->new window) are not functioning at all. The buttons and visual stuff does work, but it doesn't load a webpage until the modal dialog is closed.
