Attached is output (truncated by Ctrl C) of terminal when running in safe-mode.

The output from Galeon goes down to end of plugin msgs (no syntax errors -- just crashes). Epiphany gives same output in terminal when starting app from command line.

Because it affects all three browsers, seems like it might be something to do with link between the browser components and the Gnome support, such as a symlink or pointer not quite right, or permissions set in a way the app is not expecting.
