I also had the same Firefox behavior right now (see attached bug report "Firefox crashing when dragging a text to the editable field").
Many times I saw that dragging anything in Firefox or Thunderbird can cause a real slowdown - the system simply lost responsiveness for dome time. Crashing is only worse version of the same problem.
