At the time, there was talk of calling OOPP 3.7 and still pushing it as a minor release, if I recall. Having that kind of policy is something that should be discussed on mozilla.dev.planning. It doesn't change the fact that we have and will, whether inadvertently or not, break sites with security fixes in minor releases. And it doesn't change the fact that there's a benefit to users via up-to-date checking services. Security through obscurity has never been a fantastic idea, which simply leaves the fingerprinting argument.

My hunch is that the balance here will ever be in favor of dropping it.
