gnome-screensaver does not provide a xscreensaver-command replacement

Bug Description

gnome-screensaver does not provide a tool with the same API as
xscreensaver-command, and nor does it alternative itself to
'xscreensaver-command' (obviously that would only be usefull if actually worked
the same which it doesn't yet)

I considering this pretty major as it breaks applications stopping the
screensaver from activating, e.g. totem, etc, and can be very annoying if we are
going to ship this by default.

Is this the same as #15851?

nope, #15851 is about the non working --poke option (which should pop up the
lock dialog) of gnome-screensaver-command, this one wants a wrapper that aliases
gnome-screensaver-command to xscreensaver-command

i agree i was going to post this myself as a bug/missed feature. since we aren't going to use xscreensaver anymore we should have functionality in gnome screensaver that would allow it to detect when a xscreensaver application wants the screensaver not to be disabled (e.g. gmplayer).

shouldn't this be rejected, since upstream thinks the applications itself should be fixed?

Please fix this issue. I need the functionality that xscreensaver-command provided.
For example, my display locks up periodically... probably a bug in [g]rdesktop.
But I used to be able to "fix" it by running ALT-F2 and the command "xscreensaver-command -activate"

just use: gnome-screensaver-command --activate

Thank you, Oliver! That solves my need.

Closing since there is a replacement for xscreensaver-command which is gnome-screensaver-command, and while the options aren't necessarily identical, the functionality is there.

regarding the interaction with other applications, upstream has said that the other applications should be fixed instead.
