Nanley - your issue is not related, and is probably just a timeout presumably due to not responding to the "Does the Display look OK?" dialog. I'm not saying it's not a bug, but it isn't related to this.

Jamie - what is the output of:

killall gnome-settings-daemon
gnome-settings-daemon --debug --no-daemon
