Hitting that occasionally on my f27. Once it starts triggering, 'fprintd-list $username' triggers it too (it hangs for 25 seconds and dies with a service timeout rather than telling me "no device found).
Commenting out ProtectSystem=strict in /usr/lib/systemd/system/fprintd.service makes it go away
